The 24 solar terms, consisting of 12 major solar terms and 12 minor solar terms, were created thousands of years ago by the ancient Chinese to guide agricultural production.
Today, the culture behind the terms provides useful guidance to people's lives as each term features special food, cultural ceremonies and healthy living tips.
"Bailu," which means white dew in Chinese, is the 15th of the 24 solar terms on the Chinese lunar calendar. It falls on Sept. 7 this year. Temperatures gradually go down and vapors in the air often condense into white droplets on the grass and trees at night. Eating water caltrops at this time signifies hopes for good luck and a bumper harvest in Chinese culture. It is a great time for outdoor sports.
