PARIS, July 25 (Xinhua) -- Two-time Olympic tennis gold medalist Andy Murray has dropped out of the singles event in Paris, but will continue to compete in the doubles.

The 37-year-old said earlier in the week that he would retire after the Paris Olympics, and confirmed at Thursday's draw that he would limit his participation to the men's doubles, meaning he won't have the chance of a third singles gold after winning in London 2012 and Rio 2016.

"The Olympics has been incredibly special for me and there have been some amazing memories on the court - particularly in London," said Murray, who also missed the singles at Wimbledon due to a back injury that he picked up in June.

"I'm happy I get to do this one more time," said the veteran, who admitted it was "unfortunate" not to play in the singles.

"I trained to get ready to play both, but I'm getting a bit older now, so it gets harder to recover from injuries and I ran out of time," he admitted.
